Timers

I used a program like this on my old Palm V to keep track of the time I spent on several projects. I have recreated the concept to a Windows app. There are lots of neat features like auto-archiving to a .CSV file each day and automatic creation of a new archive file each month.

Announcing: Market Maker v.0.0.1

At long last, after two years of research and development, I have my Market Maker game in a state worth releasing. Mind you, it is no where near perfect, but it is very playable with very few known issues.

I have decided not to open the source code, but I am allowing anyone to play it for free if they register. To register, follow the directions in the game. (You send a single email and receive an unlock file.) Otherwise, unregistered copies will run for 20 minutes before shutting down.

Click here to download Market Maker

All you need to do is unzip the EXE then run it. It is a very clean install, and does not touch the registry, or any other folder other than its own. (It does add icons if you want, but they are cleanly removed on uninstall.)

BE SURE to read the help file under Help / Instructions. Also, please send all correspondence to the email mentioned in the game. Thanks!

Poker Dice... In Excel!

I tried to think of a game I could create in Excel without any VBA code at all, but was still at least slightly interesting.

I thought of the old Poker Dice game. You roll six dice, each of them have six cards printed on them; nine, ten, jack, queen, king and ace. You get paid an amount depending on the hand you get. (It's really closer to a slot machine than a poker game.)

I utilized Excel's circular references to mimic variables in a basic program, and the calculate option (F9) to 'pull the handle' so to speak.

Another little program

I got this idea from a little Google gadget. The game was fun, but there were no options to speak of, so I created Fill It! The object is to turn the playing field all one color in as few moves as possible. I have created an instruction file in HTML which is loaded into your browser when you click Help/Instructions in the program.
The current version (1.2) is complete for a 1-person game. I have ideas to make it a 2-player game as soon as I figure out network objects in VB.

Rethinking my short story

Sorry for the delay. I read my short story, "Crime Doesn't Pay" and I realized it needs a serious re-write, so I'm going to work on that for a while.

In the mean time, enjoy this little program I threw together called TextClock. It displays the current time in readable English. It's a version 1.0, so there are lots of things I have yet to impliment. Please post any ideas, suggestions or comments. Thanks!

Welcome. Come here to check out whatever I happen to be doing. On here you're likely to see a wide variety of things. Currently on my plate are:

  • A categorized list of all 4,000 Atari 8-bit programs in my collection (work in progress)
  • The rules to my board game "Radio Networks"
  • A fantasy/sci-fi short story of mine called "Crime Doesn't Pay"
  • A puzzle game I wrote in VB.NET called "Fill It!"
  • Various VBA scripts I write for people
  • A rejected Star Trek:TNG script I wrote called "All Life"

I think that's enough for now. My next post will start things off with my short story. I wrote it about 15 years ago while trying to develop some characters for a novel. It's about two young but highly talented wizards, Norman and Thomas. Without Thomas knowing, Norman had stolen an electronic spell book from an equally talented, but much more experienced wizard named Aryer. (Pronounced are-YEHR) The story is how Norman and Thomas do whatever they can think of to stay one step ahead of Aryer. (Remember, my intent was just to live in the characters for a while, so this is more of a 'day in the life' rather than a fully-developed story.)

Thanks for reading!
